Janice Stratis “Yia Yia”, age 82, of Westchester, formerly of Oak Park, passed away on December 8, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Danny Stratis; loving mother of Danita Stratis, Desiree (Jim) Becker and Dan (Julie) Stratis; proud Yia Yia of Georgia, Josie and Thalia Becker and Danny, Ellie and Charlie Stratis; dear sister of Ellen (late Jimmy) Raby, Kennith (Cindy) Mitchell and preceded in death by siblings Wayne (late Mabel) Mitchell and Allen (late Delarise) Mitchell; fond aunt to many, and loved “Yia Yia” to all the kids in the neighborhood. Janice was born Janice Mitchell in Limestone Co., Alabama. After schooling, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she became a member of the secretarial pool for the FBI. In the early 1960’s she moved to the Chicago area, where she met her husband Danny at his restaurant, Leon’s. Janice and Danny married in 1968. Janice converted to the Greek Orthodox faith and she became a Sunday School teacher at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Janice loved her jigsaw puzzles, traveling with her sister, and all things Christmas, including putting up her famous Christmas villages. Most importantly, she was her grandchildren’s #1 fan at all their sporting events, rain or shine. Family was the most important thing to Janice, and she enjoyed nothing more than being with them whether at barbeques, or any type of family gathering. Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Rd., Westchester on Tuesday December 12, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. All will meet Wednesday for 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 601 S.
