Obituary

Nirupama (Niru) Modi, aged 85, passed away on December 10th, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter in Naperville, Illinois.

She is survived by her daughters, Rupa Wardekar and Lina Pradhan, their spouses Manish Wardekar and Samir Pradhan and her grandchildren Shreyas Wardekar, Akshay Pradhan and Arjun Pradhan.

Niru was born in Aden, Yemen on November 27th, 1935 and was married to the late Rameshchandra Modi. They lived for over fifty years in Syracuse, New York where they raised their family. She was the pillar of the Indian Community and was passionate about organizing large cultural events and festivals in Syracuse. She was known in the community as a person that everyone could depend on and all were welcome in her home. Niru was an amazing cook and loved to feed family and friends. Her life was firmly guided by the principles of kindness, service and love for all. Beauty, grace and strength are the words that personified her. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and she spent many hours teaching them about Indian culture and human values. She will always be a guiding light to our family and her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren.
